The Sunshine Coast Helicopter Rescue Service ("SCHRS") recognises the importance of privacy protection. The information you provide SCHRS as part of your personal dealings with it is defined as "personal information" under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What personal information does SCHRS collect?

SCHRS only collects your personal information it requires for its operations, or for the promotion or marketing of its services. SCHRS may also collect your personal information if it is provided to SCHRS by State and Federal government departments such as the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Queensland Health Service. This personal information may be collected prior to, during, or after missions are undertaken by SCHRS to enable its missions to be conducted safely and effectively.

What if you don't provide SCHRS with the personal information it requires?

If you can't or won't provide SCHRS with the personal information it reasonably requires, SCHRS may be unable to provide to you the information or services you wish to use or receive.

What happens with your personal information?

Your personal information collected by SCHRS may be used:

  • to ensure its missions are conducted safely and effectively; 
  • to send receipts for tax deductible donations;
  • for SCHRS 3rd party reimbursement purposes; and 
  • for SCHRS direct marketing and sponsorship purposes.

Your personal information may also be de-identified and combined with other information to provide SCHRS with anonymous demographic information. SCHRS may use this demographic information to assist its understanding of when, where and by whom its services are used.
If SCHRS uses your personal information for direct marketing purposes, any correspondence sent to you will give you the opportunity to opt out of receiving any further correspondence.

Will personal information be given to anyone else?

Your personal information collected by SCHRS will only be disclosed to third parties:

  • if you authorise SCHRS to do so; 
  • to ensure your safety and the safety of others in your community; and 
  • if required or permitted by law.

Access and correction

You have a right to access the personal information SCHRS holds about you. You can access your personal information by contacting the Business Development Officer on 07 5458 8741. If you believe that any personal information SCHRS holds about you is inaccurate, incomplete or not up-to-date, please contact SCHRS so it can investigate the matter.

SCHRS reserves the right to withhold your personal information where its disclosure is restricted by law, is the subject of legal action or may compromise the privacy of another party.

Personal information security

SCHRS takes reasonable steps to ensure the security of your personal information held by it from such risks as loss or unauthorised access, destruction, use, modification or disclosure of data. SCHRS only permits your personal information to be accessed by its authorised personnel.

How can you stop receiving marketing information from SCHRS?

As noted above, SCHRS may use your personal information to contact you from time to time to inform you of the activities of SCHRS, upcoming fundraising events and functions, or to gather feedback on SCHRS's operations.

If you would prefer not to be contacted or receive that type of information, you can either:

  • call SCHRS on (07) 5458 8741; or 
  • write to the Business Development Officer at the address below.

SCHRS will keep a record of your request to ensure you are not contacted or do not receive that information in the future.

You cannot ask not to receive information which SCHRS is required to provide you by law.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

SCHRS reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time.
