20-03-08 - Coast chopper comes across 'horrific' crash scene

The Sunshine Coast rescue helicopter has airlifted a woman to Brisbane after her vehicle left the road and rolled several times near Biggenden, near Maryborough.

The 55-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury after the highway crash.

The Childers woman was travelling with her husband when the accident occurred at 10:45am this morning. The couple were driving a late-model dual-cab utility and were pulling a camper trailer at the time.

The ENERGEX Community Rescue Helicopter responded to the emergency call with QAS and Police and found a horrific accident scene.

"The scene was littered with their gear and broken parts of their trailer and vehicle,"said ENERGEX Rescue Helicopter crewman Jeremy Cutelli.

"It must have been quite an accident. The husband told us that their car rolled that many times that he lost count."

Emergency services worked to free the entrapped woman before treating her on scene and transferring her to the Rescue Chopper.

The injured woman, who also suffered a suspected fractured skull, was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Her husband suffered minor injuries and was taken to Biggenden by road ambulance.
