Qualifications: Education: PhD, Masters (Education), BA, BHMS, Grad Dip Teaching

Rescue: SLSQ Bronze Medallion, IRB Crew, Radios, ARC, Senior First Aid, SLSA Helicopter Crew, SES Mountain Rescue, SCHRS Rescue crew, Winch operator, HUET, Airside drivers, Aircrew theory.
Experience: While completing my degree I was a public servant for Department of Social Security in a Rehabilitation Institution. After my BHMS and Grad Dip Teaching I was a teacher for 13 years in Australia, England and Scotland. I took up Research Assistant at University of Queensland and then completed my doctorate in 2002. After working for UQ for 2 years as an academic I moved closer to the surf to work at Griffith University where I now work as a lecturer and researcher.
Highlights: Initially it was joining SCHRS as an extension of SLSC and working with a diligent, focussed and generous team of crew and pilots to give something back to the community. Now, after many sponsor, crew, pilot and hangar changes the highlights are flying and coming back from difficult jobs where our commitment to the job ends in a successful mission and enhanced relationships within the crew. Being remembered at a new job by someone I've previously interacted with and getting letters of thanks are appreciated too.
Most memorable mission: The winch jobs at Mt Tibrogargan, Crookneck and a waterfall near Maleny where spaces are tight and we had the gamut of search and then difficult winch to from narrow or unsecured extraction spaces. An injury needing a stretcher winch and blades just feet from a cliff face. All resulted in successfully recovering the patient and flying them to hospital for a positive recovery. The feeling of being part of a well-trained co-operative crew, pilot and paramedic team.

A traumatic mission was watching the parents of a young man meet us in a paddock to try and understand how their son ended up caught through a slasher.
Hobbies and interests:

Surfing, snowboarding, landscape photography, overseas treks and cycle trips, working with ideas and researching human interaction.
